June 25th, 2011:
The Massachusetts Humane Society has set out to accomplish a substantial goal, and is hoping for your assistance in this crucial endeavor. Our mission is to create a Cat Sanctuary for animals that otherwise would have nowhere else to go, thus allowing them to live out the remainder of their lives in peace and comfort. Phase One of this mission has started in networking with several realtors, contractors and monetary fundraising. MHS's timeline for this project, Bessy's Place Cat Sanctuary, is approximately 4 to 5 years, if not possibly sooner.
Our plan is to create a cage-free sanctuary for cats that are homeless or in a hopeless situation. BPCS - MHS will also be a Cat Adoption Center for adoptable cats looking for homes. Animal Shelters nationwide are overwhelmed and overcrowded with felines, and quickly running out of room to take them. Based on reports from 1,038 facilities across America who responded to the 1997 National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy - Shelter Statistics Survey, approximately 71% of cats and kittens entering Shelters are killed. That is just one reason why creating a Cat Sanctuary is imperative.
Although adoptions do occur, those adopted are usually kittens or young, healthy cats. Over the past few years there has been an increase in the number of abandoned and homeless adult (6 to 10-year-old) and senior (11+ years-old) cats. Additionally, many cats that have feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), special diets, or other special needs are usually bypassed and stay in a Shelter for a number of years, only to end up being euthanized. Felines that are abandoned - left behind outside - has increased 35 - 45 % in the last 2-3 years. Bessy's Place Cat Sanctuary wants to see these cats find loving, caring and responsible forever homes. However, if this cannot be accomplished, then we feel that a Cat Sanctuary is the next best thing for these animals.
Even if a feline is not your ideal pet, won't you please consider helping them find a forever place to live in peace and comfort?
How can you help?
Donations
The Massachusetts Humane Society (MHS - BPCS) always welcomes *monetary donations* - no donation is too small. In order to get started with this project, we are especially in need of funds to either purchase property, real estate (house) or an existing building to renovate. Once this is obtained then contractors and carpenters would be sought after, in order to complete the building or renovation process.
Please help us help them and join us!
